Eurydactylodes agricolae
Species Overview:
Eurydactylodes agricolae is a small arboreal gecko endemic to New Caledonia (Family: Diplodactylidae). It possesses a compact body, adhesive toe pads, and a prehensile tail adapted for scansorial life in low to mid-level vegetation. Coloration typically ranges from green to olive with diffuse mottling, providing effective camouflage. The species is nocturnal, insectivorous–frugivorous, and exhibits a generally calm disposition.
Enclosure:
Vertically oriented enclosures measuring approximately 12 × 12 × 18 in are suitable for individuals or pairs. Enclosures should be densely furnished with vegetation, cork bark, and branches to facilitate climbing and provide cover. Adequate ventilation is required.
Environmental Parameters:
-
Temperature: 22–26 °C (72–79 °F) daytime with a slight nocturnal drop
-
Humidity: 60–80%, maintained through regular misting with partial drying cycles
-
Lighting: Low-intensity UVB recommended; provide shaded areas
-
Photoperiod: 12L:12D
Diet:
A commercial crested gecko diet (CGD), such as Repashy, may be offered as the primary food source. Supplemental gut-loaded insects (e.g., crickets, small roaches, fruit flies) should be provided periodically, particularly for juveniles and breeding adults. Insect prey should be appropriately supplemented with calcium and vitamins. Water is typically consumed from misted surfaces.
General Notes:
Eurydactylodes agricolae adapts well to captivity when maintained under stable environmental conditions and minimal disturbance, making it well suited for naturalistic display enclosures and long-term husbandry.
